Hedges must be
trimmed in summer
A hedge constitutes a wall of greenery that protects the garden and house against prying eyes. Consisting generally of a single species of shrub, it needs to be trimmed one or more times per year – depending on the species – to keep its regular appearance.
It is worth noting that there are about fifteen trees and shrubs that are sufficiently dense to be used as a hedge. The most common ones used are yew, thuyas, cypresses and false cypresses. Others include laurel, privet, hornbeam. Box can also be planted as a low hedge, although its growth is very slow.

The following must be trimmed in July-August:
- holly (cut just once a year)
- privet (after pruning already in April-May)
- myrtle
- cotoneasters planted as a low hedge (one "short" cut per year).
If you have not done it in June, you must prune privet, thuyas, cypress and common yew once a year. It should be noted that the latter can be pruned twice a year (in May then again in August-September).
Reminder: legally, the maximum height of a hedge is 2 m.
