Planting in autumn

The month of St. Catherine is perfect for autumnal planting: bulbs, roses, hedges, fruit trees...

It is just plants are entering their winter slumber that you have the best chance of planting them successfully. They are slowing down and accept the stress of the change of place and soil with no problems. The plant is also able to take its time to anchor itself in its new location, taking advantage of all the winter period to strengthen its roots.

This is the time to plant

Bulbs : depending on the variety, you will obtain flowers from the middle of winter through to the end of spring.

Roses : they will be more robust and will guarantee early and more abundant flowering from the first year.

Hedges : by planting them in the autumn, you will optimise their chance of restarting their growth, both in height and volume.

Fruit trees : you will guarantee the tree a solid root system and you will gain a year's harvest compared to if you plant it in the spring.
