Snow on the lawn

Avoid walking on a frozen lawn or one covered with snow. It weakens the lawn and makes it more prone to disease.

If you are obliged to walk on it, put down wide planks which will prevent the snow being too damped down. Remove them when the snow thaws.

There is no point in clearing snow from the lawn as it forms an insulating layer for the grass when it is very cold. However, if your garden consists of clayey soil and evacuates the water badly, you will need to remove the snow before it thaws.

A pile of snow on the lawn is not a problem during the winter. When it thaws, sweep it away so as not to delay the lawn restarting in spring.
