Originally these were secateurs fixed on to a pole used to cut off branches infested with caterpillars, hence the name in French "échenilloirs" from "chenille", caterpillar.
Today they enable you to cut off branches as thick as 40 mm with a minimum cutting effort thanks to a pulley mechanism.
The rope pulley easily activates the blades.
Pruning saws
These allow you to easily cut off large branches in high trees thanks to their curved blade equipped with special teeth.
The OYM2 professional model also has a stopper that prevents the saw coming out of the cut and a hook to pull out the cut branches if they get tangled in the tree.
